Hey Lyykers! Who doesn’t love a warm, buttery croissant fresh out of the oven? Whether you’re enjoying it with a cup of coffee or using it as the base for a delicious sandwich, the croissant is the ultimate comfort food.

Originally from Austria, this iconic French pastry is made with layers of dough, butter, and a whole lot of love. In this article, let’s explore two easy recipes to make your own croissants at home.

1. Classic Butter Croissants

Ingredients:

• 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (270 gr)

• ¼ cup sugar (50 gr)

• 1 ½ tsp salt

• 1 tbsp active dry yeast

• ¾ cup warm milk (180 gr)

• 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

• 1 ½ cups unsalted cold butter (for laminating) (340 gr)

• 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

2. Slowly pour in the warm milk and melted butter, mixing until a dough forms.

3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

4. Place the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Place the cold butter in the center and fold the dough over to seal it. Roll it out into a long rectangle, then fold it into thirds like a letter. Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes.

6. Repeat the folding and chilling process three more times.

7. Once the dough has been laminated, roll it out into a thin rectangle and cut it into triangles.

8. Roll each triangle tightly into a croissant shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the croissants with the egg wash.

10. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky. Let them cool before enjoying!

Chocolate Croissants

For those with a sweet tooth, chocolate croissants are an irresistible treat. The combination of buttery, flaky pastry and rich, melted chocolate is pure bliss!

Ingredients:

• 1 batch of classic croissant dough (see above)

• 4 oz dark chocolate (or milk chocolate, if you prefer) (113 gr)

• 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the classic croissant dough as instructed above.

2. Once the dough has been rolled out, cut it into triangles.

3. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place a few pieces on the wider end of each triangle.

4. Roll the dough tightly around the chocolate, making sure to seal the edges so the chocolate stays inside.

5. Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

6. Brush the tops with egg wash for a golden, shiny finish.

7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.

8. Allow them to cool slightly before enjoying the gooey chocolate inside!

Both of these recipes will give you the perfect croissant experience. They may take some time, but the reward is a delicious, flaky pastry that’ll make you feel like a French pastry chef. Enjoy, Lykkers!
