Lykkers, are you ready to dive into a tranquil lakeside adventure?
Dillon Reservoir, nestled in the heart of Colorado's Summit County, offers an unforgettable escape into nature that we just had to share with you!
One of the first things we did when we arrived was take a leisurely walk around the Dillon Reservoir Trail. This 3.5-mile trail loops around the reservoir, offering stunning views of the water, the surrounding mountains, and the vibrant local wildlife. Along the way, we stopped to admire the serene landscape and even spotted some kayakers gliding smoothly across the water. The trail is perfect for anyone who enjoys a peaceful walk or bike ride, with plenty of scenic spots to take a break and snap a few pictures.
The trail is open year-round, and best of all, it's free! Whether you're visiting in the summer for some sun or during the winter to experience the serene snowy landscape, this trail never disappoints.
Another activity we couldn't pass up was exploring the water activities at Dillon Reservoir. During the summer months, this spot transforms into a haven for water enthusiasts. We rented a boat to explore the reservoir's calm waters, and it was an absolute blast! From kayaking to paddleboarding and fishing, there's something for everyone here.
The Dillon Marina is the go-to place for rentals, and it operates from May to September. Rental prices vary, but for a kayak or paddleboard, you can expect to pay around $25–$40 per hour. If you're interested in a boat rental, prices start at about $150 for a half-day.
When we visited, we were impressed by how easy it was to get to Dillon Reservoir and make the most of our day. It's located just off I-70, making it a convenient stop whether you're coming from Denver or nearby ski resorts. There's ample parking available at the reservoir, and it's also accessible by public transportation. For those interested in fishing, a Colorado fishing license is required, which you can purchase online or at local shops.
During the summer months, it's a good idea to arrive early, as the reservoir can get busy with families, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts. Also, if you plan to rent any equipment, make sure to check ahead for availability, especially on weekends.
After a day full of adventure, we treated ourselves to a relaxing meal at one of the restaurants near the reservoir. The Dillon Dam Brewery offers a cozy atmosphere with delicious food and locally brewed craft brews. While you're there, we highly recommend trying their hearty sandwiches and salads. The outdoor seating area gives you a perfect view of the lake, making it a great place to unwind after a fun day.
If you're not in the mood for a sit-down meal, there are also picnic areas near the reservoir where you can enjoy a packed lunch while taking in the stunning views of the water and mountains.
Dillon Reservoir was one of the most peaceful and beautiful places we've visited, and we can't wait to return! From the scenic trails to the exciting water activities, it's a place where you can reconnect with nature and unwind from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you're looking for a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and relaxation, Dillon Reservoir should be at the top of your list.
